Dr. Astrid Menz

Astrid Menz holds a doctorate (1998) and a master’s degree (1991) in Turcology from the Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz, Germany. Her doctoral dissertation is on language contact phenomena in Gagauz, a Turkic language linguistically very close to Turkish spoken mainly in the Republic of Moldova.


From 1993 to 1999 she was employed as a research and teaching assistant at the Seminar für Orientkunde of the Johannes Gutenberg University, from 1999 to 2004 as a research fellow at the Orient Institute of the DMG in Istanbul. In 2005 and 2006 she has worked as senior lecturer as a deputy for the professor for Turcology at the Department of Linguistic and Philology of Uppsala University.  Until summer 2008 she was teaching at the Department for Turkic Languages and Literature at Boğaziçi University in Istanbul. Since September 2006 she is responsible for the library of the Orient Institute Istanbul.
